The structural colour coating and Satin finish leverages the randomly tilted panels to provide a dynamic and colourful facade, which is one of the world’s largest solar facade installations. The complex building volume with its many self-shadows and facades highlights the advantages for the sophisticated power and monitoring system.
The Blue-green color was chosen to harmoniously and playfully interact with the sun and reflections from sea and sky, and the random tilt of the panels designed to leverage the iridescent equality of the coatings to make the 28.000 sqm school less dominant and big - and thereby more child friendly. Making it a valuable architectural contribution to the community and a forerunner in sustainable architecture with its Passive House certification.
Even on a grey winter day in Copenhagen the iridescent cladding produce carbon-free electricity and contribute aesthetically to a fun and lively campus, while simultaneously being a powerful bonus for the surrounding neighborhood.
